Mark Sullivan presented a donation to Crystal Steiner from our Foundation in the amount of $500 to the Junior Achievement of the Mad River Region at the regular Tuesday Noon meeting of Springfield Exchange September 20th, 2016
The purpose of Junior Achievement is to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business, and economics to improve the quality of their lives.
Junior Achievement’s Elementary School programs are the foundation of its K-12 curricula. Six sequential themes, each with five hands-on activities work to change kids’ lives by helping them understand business and economics.
Kindergarten Ourselves® explains personal economics through a collection of short stories read aloud by the volunteer.
First Grade Our Families® emphasizes the roles people play in the local economy as well as how they work together to make the place they live a good place.
Second Grade Our Community® explores the interdependent roles of workers in a community and how communities work.
New Version: Third Grade JA Our City introduces students to the intersection of financial literacy and third-grade social studies learning objectives, including the characteristics of cities and how people and businesses in cities manage their money.
Old Version still available:Third Grade Our City® studies careers, the skills people need to work in those careers, and how businesses contribute to a city.
Fourth Grade Our Region® introduces students to entrepreneurship and how entrepreneurs use resources to produce goods and services in a community. Students solve problems by weighing risks and rewards.
Following participation in the program, students will be able to analyze how entrepreneurs use resources and work with each other to produce goods and services in a community. Recognize the skills, tasks, and concepts an entrepreneur must master to start a successful business.
Fifth Grade Our Nation is Junior Achievement’s fifth-grade program that provides practical information about businesses’ need for individuals who can meet the demands of the job market, including high-growth, high-demand jobs. Students will learn that businesses need workers with skills that are in demand, such as STEM skills – science, technology, engineering and math. They’ll understand that people who have these skills benefit from a growing number of career opportunities.
JA More Than Money™, will meet the after-school programming needs of a diverse group of students by providing engaging, academically enriching, and experiential learning sessions in economic education. JA Dollars and $ense™ encompasses economics and business curriculum for students in grades three through five. The program emphasizes social studies content while providing a strong focus on mathematics, reading, and writing skills. The JA Dollars and $ense experience enhances students’ classroom curriculum. Students are encouraged to use innovative thinking to learn money-management skills that support positive attitudes as they explore and enhance their career aspirations.
Middle Grade Programs
Junior Achievement’s Middle Grade programs include economics and business curricula for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students as well as a capstone experience. The dynamic interaction between the volunteer and the students promotes active learning and brings theory to life.
JA Global MarketplaceTM is designed to provide practical information about the key aspects of the global economy, what makes world trade work, and how trade affects students’ daily lives.
JA Economics for Success provides practical information about personal finance and the importance of identifying education and career goals based on a student’s skills, interests, and values. * New and old versions available.
JA America Works: JA America Works focuses on the impact of business and entrepreneurship on the economic development of the United States during the 1800’s. It is designed around six key themes: immigration, agriculture, natural resources, transportation, communication, and industrialization.
JA It’s My Business! is as after-school program that encompasses entrepreneurship curriculum for students in grades six, seven, and eight.
JA It’s My Future provides practical information about preparing for the working world while still in middle school. Following participation in the program, students will be able to:
- Explore potential careers, discover how to plan for a job, and learn how to keep it.
- Develop personal-branding and job-hunting tools for earning a job.
High School Programs
Junior Achievement’s High School Programs are economic and business curricula for students in grades 9-12 and include a student-led enterprise. The dynamic interaction between the volunteer and the students promotes active learning and brings theory to life.
JA Company Program™ analyzes and explores personal opportunities and responsibilities within a student-led enterprise.
JA Economics™ examines the fundamental concepts of micro-, macro- and international economics.
Personal Finance focuses on: earning money; spending money wisely through budgeting; saving and investing money; using credit cautiously; and protecting one’s personal finances.
Following participation in the program, students will be able to recognize the fundamental elements of their personal finances: earnings, saving and investing, budgeting, credit, risk management, and giving. And apply these fundamental elements to a personal financial plan that allows them to set specific goals for their lifelong financial needs and desired quality of life.
JA TITAN TM introduces critical economics and management decisions through an interactive Web-based or CD-ROM simulation.
JA Job Shadow prepares students to be entrepreneurial thinkers in their approach to work. Students will acquire and apply the skills needed in demanding and ever-changing workplaces. Following participation in the program, students will be able to:
- Recognize career clusters and potential job positions and understand the importance of researching the requirements needed to earn a position.
- Develop job-hunting tools, such as networking, resumes, and interviewing skills.
- Identify the next steps needed in their personal career preparation.
JA Exploring Economics fosters lifelong skills and knowledge about how an economy works, including micro-, macro-, personal, and international economics.
JA Careers with a Purpose introduces students to the importance of seeking careers that help them realize their life potential and noble purpose. The program demonstrates the importance of positive values, life maxims, and ethical decision-making within the context of career and life decisions. * Program retiring, limited quantities available.
JA Business Ethics fosters students’ ethical decision-making as they prepare to enter the workforce and take part in the global marketplace. Students will recognize and analyze theory, terminology, and concepts; apply skills; and evaluate ethical decision-making. * Program retiring, limited quantities available.
JA Banks in Action teaches high school students the principles of the banking industry, and introduces them to the challenges of successfully operating a bank in a competitive environment. * Program retiring, limited quantities available.
JA Be Entrepreneurial™ By developing the essential components of a business plan, JA Be Entrepreneurial challenges students to start an entrepreneurial venture while still in high school.
JA Career Success equips students with the tools and skills required to earn and keep a job in high-growth career industries. This new program covers the following key topics:
