The Exchange Club of Springfield sponsored the Kid’s Day at the Clark County Fair for the 68th time this year on July 26th, 2017. This project was originally a “Sunshine Special Project” when in 1949 the club brought orphans from the Clark County Children’s Home to the Fair for a day of fun, food, and exploration. The club added “Old fashioned games” several years later and included any child at the Fair from the ages of 5 – 16 years. These games include these days the 75 Yard Dash for Boys and Girls 11 – 16, the 50 Yard Dash for Boys and Girls 10 and Under, the 25 yard Sack Race for Boys 10 and Under, Girls 10 and Under, Boys 11 -16 and Girls 11 -16. The ever popular Egg Race on a Spoon is similarly run according to age, as well as the most eggciting event of all, The Egg Toss! Cash prizes are awarded for First, Second, and Third Place in each event and a number of heats are run, according to the number of contestants. There are also cash prizes of $25.00 and $50.00 selected by a random drawing of supplied tickets. This year we estimate approximately 350 participated. The weather was really amazing and a good time was had by all, save the hapless eggs…..
The following Exchangites participated, Jerry Sewell, Marc Holt, Peg Haemmerle, Bev Sewell, Mark Sullivan, Doris Ross, Teresa Metzger, Alan Peczkowski, Connie Kearns, Don Lynam, Dan Gallagher, Marilyn Gallagher, Wendy Holt, Melissa Tuttle, Jennifer Smith, Steve Klipfel long time Springfield member and now with the Northwest Cincinnati Club, and Larry Sewell.
