The Exchange Club of Springfield, Ohio met Tuesday November 14, 2023, BPSC Alumni Room at 6 PM for its regularly scheduled member meeting, with 16 Members and one guest present. Guest Speaker was Jack Legg from Wellspring. Jack‘s power point presentation highlighted the results of the SPARK program which helps four year old children to increase their reading and math skills. The data is compiled and analyzed by Kent State University SPARK project folks. The data is very compelling, as an impressive increase in reading and math skills can be demonstrated, even into the third and fifth grades. The program includes a monthly home visit which engages the parent/guardian as well, encouraging them to participate in learning with their child. A book and other materials are provided for each month’s lesson plan. Mr. Legg is one of two certified SPARK instructors. Each of them has around 30 clients. The results speak for themselves. Mr. Legg accepted a $1,000 Foundation donation from Exchange Member Jill Parker, to assist them in their good works.
