Springfield Exchange Members Skip Warner, Bonnie Davis, and Bev Sewell assisted members of the newly chartered Tigers Exchange Club of Clark County, Ohio, with a community service project Saturday June 8, 2024.
S.O.U.P (Springfield Ohio Urban Plantfolk), is a community based, urban agriculture approach to food security for residents of the south side of Springfield, which is an official food desert. This is the fifth year for the Porch Garden Project, which provides a free container garden to residents on the south side of Springfield. Residents pre-select plants on SOUP’s Face Book page from a variety of 10 plants, such as tomatoes, peppers, etc.
The Exchange Members distributed flyers to arriving participants, provided drivers with forms on clip boards, assisted at check-in, and delivered the forms to ‘pickers’ who assembled the combinations for others. The assorted veggie plants were then loaded into vehicles. The two hour project went quickly as the day was sunny, but mild. Thanks to Tigers Exchange Club Members Chris, Matt, Dallas, Paris, Stuart, Jeff, Jim, Kylie, Zan, Jordan, Jim L, and Larry. Unity for Service!
