he Exchange Club of Springfield had a rare noon meeting Tuesday June 25th, at Shull Hall on the Campus of Clark State College. The five Club members present had an opportunity to visit the new labs and have lunch with the High School Academy students. Clark State has received a grant from the Department of Defense to form a summer term class of up to 16 students. The two-week, full-time course will result in a student receiving the basic level certificate, (6 credit hours), in manufacturing. This encourages students to pursue a course of study resulting in a highly sought after degree in manufacturing. Members enjoyed the lunch with three of the students, who spoke about their interest in technology and their future. Local manufacturing firms desperately need qualified employees in our county.
Many thanks to Toni O, Toni A, Darryl, Steven, and Nora for their hospitality and wonderful tour of the manufacturing training area. Skip, Bev, Melissa, Don, and Larry learned that Clark State can simulate various troubleshooting challenges, teach and certify locally employees, and retrain those seeking employment in the many manufacturing opportunities in this area. Toni from the Clark State Foundation accepted an Exchange Club Foundation of Springfield, Ohio donation of $1,000 to the Fred Dillon Scholarship in Manufacturing endowed by Exchange.
