The Exchange Club of Springfield welcomed Rob Lavoie, Executive Director of the Tecumseh Council, Boy Scouts of America to its regularly scheduled Tuesday February 27, 2018, Noon, meeting at Wittenberg’s Student Center. Rob was presented with a Foundation Donation of $1,000 from our Club President, Jerry Sewell.
Rob related that for the first time in living memory all five of the district counties in the council had growth in 2017. The combined growth of just under four percent was another indicator that scouting in the Council is vibrant and of interest to our youth. The Council serves more than 3,300 youth and had over 1,300 adult volunteers to make the following possible. There were 30,000 nights of camping at the great facility of the Council, Camp Hugh Taylor Birch. There were 45,000 pounds of food collected for the needy by the scouts and 80 scouts earned the coveted rank of Eagle Scout last year.
The Council also has participated in the recent addition of girls to Cub Scouting with a Pack in Greene County District. The units are gender specific, not coed at this time. There are 137 Merit Badges available and the ten most popular merit badges are First Aid, Swimming, Cooking, Environmental Science, Citizenship in the World, Citizenship in the Nation, Communication, Camping, Personal Fitness, and Citizenship in the Community.
