Gina Burke, Director of CASA, accepts a $ 1,000 Foundation donation from Exchangite Board Member Karen Sullivan at the regularly scheduled Tuesday September 24th, 2019, 7:00 AM membership meeting of the Springfield Exchange Club, in the Wittenberg University Student Center Alumni Room.
CASA – The Voice of Clark County’s Children is a Court Appointed Special Advocate program. CASA’s mission is to promote and advocate for the best interests of a child involved in a neglect and abuse case in the court system of Clark County, Ohio.
Gina spoke about a particular case involving three siblings and how the CASA volunteer advocated for them. There have been 83 cases so far in 2019, which works out to about 40% of total cases brought to the court. Obviously this represents a need for many more volunteers. There is training and support for the guardians, who can expect to spend between 15 and 20 hours per month as an advocate for the child or children on the case.
