The Exchange Club of Springfield, Ohio, met Tuesday November 23, 2021 at the Masonic Lidner Center, 7:00 AM, with 9 members and 4 guests present. Beth Dixon, from WellSpring’s Bringing Awareness to Students Program, introduced students Dina Rulli-Heaphey and Mary Cunningham, who presented on their “What’s Wellness? Project. They led a series of nine workshops, assisted by students from Wittenberg University, to assist their peers in dealing with the stress experienced by students and exacerbated by the disruption due to the pandemic. These free and open to the public workshops were held in downtown Springfield locations and included Meditation, Pilates, Self Expression Through Art, Journaling, Overcoming Adversity, Nutrition, Social Media, Choose Water, and Goal Setting. Each Saturday section lasted about 45 minutes and was well attended by 100+ students, although not everyone attended all the sessions. Beth also introduced Ibrahaim Ranginwala who presented on the Choose Water Project. He and fellow student Raaidh Rizvi started their project when Ibrahim began thinking about the problem of obesity. The project urges students, and adults too, to choose water as a beverage in lieu of sugary drinks by being aware of the added sugar in even the most “healthy” choices. Club members were greatly impressed by the organization, passion, and leadership these teens exhibited! Our Foundation Board Member Peg Haemmerle presented a donation in the amount of $1,000 to WellSpring to help them continue with projects just like this one!
