The Exchange Club of Springfield, Ohio honored the 2023 Book of Golden Deeds Award recipients Tuesday April 18, 2023, at a banquet in their honor at Wittenberg University’s Shouvlin Center. Alan Peczkowski, Chair of the Book of Golden Deeds Committee, introduced Committee Member Mark Lotz, who presented the Awards at the annual event.
This year the recipients were Kathryn Howard, who at the age of 84 has for years volunteered many hours at the Springfield Soup Kitchen. Also honored were members of the The Clark County Medical Reserve Corps, some 110 strong, who served so well during the pandemic, to the tune of a combined 65,000 hours. Ms. Howard expressed her appreciation as Fred Stegner, Director of the Soup Kitchen described her tireless efforts. Sandy Miller, Coordinator of the CC Medical Reserves for the CC Health Department, described the great teamwork and self-sacrifice of the group during a time of great uncertainty.

Volunteer efforts are very important to our society and should not go unnoticed. The National Exchange Club’s longest running project, the Book of Golden Deeds Award, recognizes dedicated volunteers who give endless hours of their time and talents toward making their communities better places to live. Ever since the Exchange Club of Huntington, Ind., sponsored the first award in 1919, thousands of unsung heroes and heroines have been recognized. The Book of Golden Deeds Award exemplifies The National Exchange Club’s beliefs.
