DESCRIPTION:We will meet Tuesday June 6th\, 2017 at the Wittenberg Benham-Pence Student Center\, Noon.  Our guest speaker will be Lo Hauser from Project Jericho. \nProject Jericho provides in-depth performing and visual arts camps and workshops with a goal to make art and cultural experiences available to all youth and families in our community.\nThe program is based on recent research that demonstrates the positive impact of arts programs on youth and families\, including (among other indicators) decreases in delinquent behavior and court involvement\, increased communication and social skills\, and improved ability to complete home and school tasks. \nJust as the trumpet’s blare brought down the walls of Jericho\, the arts break down barriers to communication\,\nself-expression\, and confidence\, allowing individuals to reach their full potential. \nProject Jericho is additionally supported by grants from The Turner Foundation\, the Ohio Arts Council\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, and the Ohio Department of Youth Services. \n.

DESCRIPTION:We will meet at Linardos Villa\, Tuesday February 7th\, 2017. Our guest speaker will be from the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel\, Andrew Tinkham. \nRole and Overview \nThe Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (OCC) is the statewide legal representative for Ohio’s residential consumers in matters related to their investor-owned electric\, natural gas\, telephone\, and water services. Led by Consumers’ Counsel Bruce Weston\, the agency advocates for consumers in proceedings before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO)\, federal regulatory agencies\, appellate courts\, and the Ohio General Assembly. The agency also monitors public utilities’ compliance with regulatory standards for consumer protection. The OCC also educates consumers about utility issues that affect their bills and quality of service. \nThe Consumers’ Counsel is selected by a nine-member\, bipartisan governing board representing family farmers\, organized labor\, and residential consumers. Each governing board member is appointed by the Ohio Attorney General. The OCC has approximately 35 employees and an operating budget of $5.6 million.  \nSince the agency’s inception in 1976\, the agency has helped to save Ohio utility customers billions of dollars in avoided utility charges\, participated to create payment assistance programs for low-income customers\, and worked to safeguard consumer protections. The agency’s staff has educated thousands of utility customers about choices available to them in a changing industry and ways to save money on their utility bills.

DESCRIPTION:We will meet at Linardos Villa\, Tuesday January 31st\, 2017. \nThe Exchange Club of Springfield\, Ohio honors a high school senior from each to the twelve in Clark County. \nThis week they are – Kierstyn Avery from CTC\, Sydney Pauley from Tecumseh\, Wesley Sizemore from GISA\, Madison Sullivan from CCHS\, and Carli Carey from Springfield High School. \nEach student will be presented with an honorarium of $100 as well as a Youth of the Month Certificate from the National Exchange Club of Springfield\, Ohio.  They are eligible to participate in our Youth of the Year Essay Contest.  The selected Youth of the Year will receive a $1\,000 college scholarship from the Springfield Exchange Club and be entered in the Ohio-West Virginia District Youth of the Year Contest.  If selected as the District Youth of the Year\, the student will receive a $1\,000 college scholarship from our district and will be entered into national competition.  If selected as the National Exchange Club Youth of the Year\, the student will receive a $10\,000 college scholarship. \nCongratulations to our Youths of the Month! \n
